Story of Self

For many of the lawyers who work at the Strides for Green Initiative, their personal turning point was witnessing with their own eyes the devastating landslides in Bududa District and the loss of lives, property, and livelihoods due to environmental negligence. This moment evoked a strong focus on environmental advocacy, driven by the realisation that environmental destruction disproportionately affects the most vulnerable. The mission became clear: to use legal action and grassroots advocacy to protect communities and the environment from reckless development projects.

Story of Us

SGI has found strength and unity in a growing network of like-minded individuals and organizations who share common goal—to ensure environmental and social justice for their loved ones and extended Ugandan national family, that lead to decent, healthy and happy lives for as many people as possible.

Collaboration with legal professionals, environmentalists, and community leaders is creating a broadly supported, effective movement that fights for sustainable policies and corporate accountability in a variety of ways. This emerging ‘coalition of people who care’, first victories in the courts and increased public awareness have jointly reinforced the belief that collective action can make meaningful change happen.

Story of Now

The time to escalate efforts against the EACOP and similar environmental threats is now.
Urgent action is needed to halt further destruction and ensure fair compensation for affected communities, and advocate for sustainable alternatives. The consequences of inaction include continued environmental degradation, displacement, and loss of biodiversity. Concrete steps include filing legal cases, mobilizing grassroots support, engaging international stakeholders, and leveraging media to amplify the cause.

The time to act is now and momentum is growing.
